Guerilla!

I have a new eye out for guerilla marketing now that we discussed it.

All I can say is WOW! There is so much of it! I noticed it all over the walls and floors of the store I was walking through. I could see it as being useful if the person was say, hungry, and saw an ad on the floor for hotpockets. Is that worth spending money and floorspace to crowd an already overloaded consumer?

Pretty soon we are all going to become so desensitized to advertising that we will ignore the advertisements that are everywhere and will shop for only what we need.

Old Spice

I found another great Old Spice ad the other day.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BId3y81bU1U

It goes along with their current ad campaign. I say this because their current ads are very funny and memorable because of it. With this humor and being so memorable, their ad campaign has become almost viral. People on the internet are sharing it among themselves - leading to greater market penetration.

New commercials

The second ad on the page is the one to watch:

http://www.armstrong.com/flooring/flooring-ads.html

I found this ad worth mentioning because it is so funny and out there. A person playing golf hits a ball through someones window, then steps through the broken window and hits said ball out another window. The advertisement had nothing to do with golfing, but instead the floor that the gentleman played off of. Very memorable!

Emotional Marketing

Though I have already done a post on this, I figured it was worth it to do another. Lately I have been cruising on spring break, and last night I looked in the fridge to get something to eat. After reading the soymilk, I came across:

"Plus, Silk comes with zero cholesterol, absolutely no lactose and a healthy dose of optimism."

How can milk come with optimism? After reading the rest of the milk jug, it was obvious they were pitching the product to those people concerened with their weight and health. Most of the arguments found tried to inflate the goodness of the product with either an emotional benefit to be gained or some cool thing the product has (6 -mighty- grams of nourishing soy protein!)

Memorable!

It is rare these days to find an ad that you remember. The ads I think of when I try to think of something that stuck with me like a bug is the Quiznos ones from awhile ago.

Recently, Old Spice hit the nail on the head with their ad about "The Man Your Man Could Smell Like".

Youtube link:

I thought this ad was interesting also because it is continuing the trend of bashing on "lady scented bodywashes". Is this market penetration or just trying to bash other companies for the scents they employ?

Ads take shot at other products

I saw this ad on TV and figured it was worth posting about. A couple weeks ago, Dove started heavily promoting their "For Men" products. Recently, Gillette has started an advertising campaign that directly targets Dove products and cites them as unworthy to protect a man from odor. Interesting to see that someone would take such a direct approach to expand its customer base.

Identifying with your target market!

I recently saw this ad on TV:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErQcFpWhkFM

I found it worth mentioning because of how consumers identify with the commercial. The sound used throughout the commercial is called "auto-tuning" and was primarily used by the rapper T-pain. In branching out from the rap scene, T-Pain's sound has been introduced here in the Budweiser commercial. Will this increase their maket penetration? People formerly into the rap markets may find the drink more attractive now that T-Pain's name is on it.

Pepsi is memorable!

I saw this ad from Pepsi and figured I would share it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GkgZFI4ZT0I

The ad identifies with men by saying "up until now men couldn't stand the taste of diet cola". This is almost like what we were talking about in class, where products like Dove and Diet drinks, traditionally though of as womanly, are now being marketed towards men. This would also be an example of marketers trying to juice more money out of a population that already knows their brand.

Go go marketing emotional benefits!

I saw this in the store and had to take a picture of it. Here you can see that the product isnt being marketed for what it is whatsoever. It is milk. The advertising is for liquid sunshine? Emotional benefit! This advertising is at eye level and is obviously aimed to try to get you to think of them the next time you are buying milk. Think of the emotional benefits and how happy you'll feel when you buy their product!

Go go family marketing!

I saw this in Walmart the other day and thought it was pretty funny that a kid was advertised on a box for a toaster. Then I realized it was being completely marketed towards families and their kids. Moms would see that picture and might actually see that they are buying their kids happiness and not just a toaster. Just a thought, interesting marketing all the same.
